Electromagnetic Radiation

This electromagnetic radiation research started from a News article in the local paper, but more on that later. I am going to start at the beginning, and where some of this Electromagnetic Radiation comes from.

Wikipedia defines electromagnetic radiation as "is a form of energy emitted and absorbed by charged particles which exhibits wave-like behaviour as it travels through space. EMR has both electric and magnetic field components, which stand in a fixed ratio of intensity to each other, and which oscillate in phase perpendicular to each other and perpendicular to the direction of energy and wave propagation. In a vacuum, electromagnetic radiation propagates at a characteristic speed, the speed of light."

Today we have an amazing amount of new devices that were not available 50 plus years ago. An example of one of these devices would be the telephone. The original telephones were connected by wires and located in most homes, and no I am not talking about the tin can phones that were connected to each other by a string that we used as kids. It did not take long to start having more than one phone in a house more for convenience than anything else and in some cases more than one telephone line. The kids were talking to their friends and nobody in the house was able to use the telephone. Today the wireless telephone is commonly used in a lot of homes. This type of telephone allows the user to walk from one room to another without having to drag a long wire behind them. The disadvantage of these phones are when the phone rings where is that wireless phone now, I guess that is progress.

Next came the cel phone that allowed the users to be able to take their phone with them in their pocket and make phone calls almost everywhere they go. Today texting has become a very popular use of the cel phone. Today the modern cel phone has become a small computer/camera address book and scheduler, that most people are carrying with them at all times. Today a lot of the children have been given cel phones by their parents so that they can keep in contact with their friends and yes the parents, the children se the cel phone is for communicating with their friends and maybe their parents if they have to. All one has to do is go to a local shopping mall and see how many children, teens, and adults you see talking or texting on their cel phones. Each one of these devices is radiating an electromagnetic field that is located right next to the person using the device.

The computers today have been miniaturized to the laptop computer and in recent years the, small hand held computers like the palm pilot and other hand held computer devices. Today the tablet and the cel phone have become the new gadgets that we must have. I am using an iPad to write this blog so what can I say.

Bluetooth devices are devices that connect to your computer or cel phone by a wireless system. More radiation at a different frquency.

We have entered into the wireless technology era where the devices have to be wireless even the internet has become wireless in a lot of homes. Today you can purchase computer printers that are able to print from computers over a wireless network called WIFI. I have been out of the computer field now for many years but I can only guess to how popular the wireless networks in business has become. You can go to your local coffee shop and have internet connection through the use of a WIFI wireless signal.

Years ago when television was first introduced to us the TV signal was broadcasted to the television set in our home by huge transmitters that put out thousands of watts of electromagnetic energy. Today that system of receiving television has been replaced by cable TV. The television signal is now brought into the home by a cable and since a lot of people today have more than one television this cable is found in almost every room of the house. I personally have seen some of the large motorhomes sporting as many as 5 televisions, how crazy is that? Even the largest motorhome is only 45 feet long so why would someone need that many televisions?

Each and every electronic device that we are using every day, television and radios are emitting a little electromagnetic radiation. How many of you have left the city and gone out in the countryside where there was no electricity, no cel phone coverage, and no WIFI, and listened to nature? If you were camping and after the first day or so of withdrawal of not having a computer connection or cel phone you will experience a new energized feeling in your body. I do gold prospecting and experience that feeling every time I am out by the river.

Why would we feel so much better being away from the city or town that we live in? My personal theory is that there is a lot less electromagnetic radiation effecting our bodies when we are away from most of the energy that is bombarding us on a daily bases.

The automobile that we drive has a very sophisticated computer system that is suppose to make them more efficient, at least that is what we are told. With all that electronics in them we can not help being exposed to their radiation every time we get into the vehicle.

Satellites are overhead in the sky, how many is any bodies guess, our governments will never admit how many to the public for national security reasons, that is if they know themselves. Each satellite is sending signals to earth from their transmitters and we all are being radiated by them.

Have you ever driven under a power line with the radio turned on? There is an AC buzz heard for a few seconds, that is the electromagnetic radiation from the power line. This is an extreme example, I know that I would never own a house that had those big power lines near by no matter how safe the power company said it was. There is a lot of things that we really do not know about electricity and its effects on the human body. At one time in the past electric shock was used as a therapy and even today an electric chair is used in penitentiaries. We all know what the results of sitting in that chair would be.

I have talked a lot about what electromagnetic radiation is, the real question is does it effect our bodies only time will tell, though it may be already happening and we don't know it yet.

It is a fact there are more diseases and stronger viruses today that what was recorded 50 to 80 years ago. More people are being diagnosed with cancer than ever before, part of this is our diagnostic procedures have become a lot more reliable that in the past. Is it the way we eat, electromagnetic radiation, pollution in the air, greenhouse effect, the radiation from the sun, or a combination of some or all of these. who knows for sure. I do not have an answer and what I found there are as many theories out there as there are sands on the beach, who knows if our scientists will every really know what the effects of all this electromagnetic radiation will have on the human body.

Certain frequencies of electromagnetic radiation has been proven to kill viruses and even cancer cells. More research does need to be made in the area of electromagnetic radiation. Maybe the frequencies used today need to be changed to give us all a healthier and safer environment to live in.
